In conjunction with the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London there will be a series of talks curated by Ekow Eshun. The talks programme 1-54 Forum takes the concept of Freefall as “a point of departure from which to explore black artistic practice as a strategy of innovation, resistance and liberation”.

As part of 1-54 Forum: Freefall NT will be taking part in the talk: The Fugitive Image alongside artists Appau Jnr Boakye-Yiadom and Onyeka Igwe with Gaylene Gould as chair.

Speakers throughout the programme include Athi-Patra Ruga [currently showing at Somerset House], Rashaad Newsome, Larry Achiampong, Harold Offeh, Kimathi Donkor, David A. Bailey, Sonia Boyce, Hurvin Anderson, Barby Asante, Kimathi Donkor, and Irvin Pascal to name just a few.

Deptford X

This year, NT has been commissioned to create a new work as part of Deptford X’s Platform 2018, which commissions and showcases new work by emerging artists for the Deptford X Art Festival.

The work titled Fox, is a 2 screen installation featuring film shot in the heart of Deptford. Fox will be shown for the first time during Deptford X.
The other 4 featured Platform 2018 artists for this year’sDeptford X as nominated by Oreet Ashery, Melanie Keen, Bryony Bond and Sarah McCrory, are Shawanda Corbett, Georgia Lucas-Going, David Steans, Laura Yuile. NT was nominated by Larry Achiampong.

Art Night @ Beaconsfield

For this year’s Art Night 2018 festival, a special version of NT’s sterling eyes will be projected as part of Spirit_Off, Arch Space of Beaconsfield Gallery’s new series of experimental sound and performance experiences. The inaugural Spirit_Off starts takes place on 7 July in the gallery’s amazing Arch Space.

NT will be showing s-time, at Beaconsfield Gallery Vauxhall, along with other members of Practice in Dialogue to coincide with their exhibition In Whose Eyes? and their symposium.

In Whose Eyes?, is an exhibition and a programme of video works, performances, sound pieces and discussions which “explores questions of female subjectivity, representation and power in contemporary Western culture. Who is made visible – or excluded – and how they are represented in culture is highly political and impacts on people’s lives in numerous intersectional ways”.
The exhibition runs from 4 July 2018 - 5 August, with the Practice In Dialogue Symposium taking place on 29 July 2018.

Practice in Dialogue are: Miriam Austin, Ingrid Berthon-Moine, Cécile Emmanuelle Borra, Phoebe Collings-James, Rose Gibbs, Lora Hristova, Catherine Long, Opie Lori, Anja Olofgörs, Lauren Schneider, and Martina Schmuecker.

BFI African Odysseys

NT’s film Mel’s Lament will be showing at the British Film Institute, Philomela’s Chorus Film Screening this month. The programme also includes 3 other short films by the artists Beverley Bennett, Phoebe Boswell and Jay Bernard.

Along with the screening of the films, there will be a Q&A with Gaylene Gould, BFI Head of Cinemas and Events and all 4 of the participating artists.
